I read From Seed to Pumpkin to the children before the Pumpkin Carving.

This book describes how a pumpkin seed grows into a plant that produces pumpkins. The book includes really beautiful detailed illustrations.

The Pumpkin Carving and Investigation

The children were not shy about investigating the inside of  the pumpkin. Most of them wanted to feel inside and scoop seeds out. The popular description was that it felt gross and it smelled stinky. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Animals in the Orchard

This past week in Pre-K we learned about Animals in the Orchard.

Circle Time Discussion
The children learned that Porcupines have sharp quills to protect them from predators and that they are nocturnal.
Birds are the only animal with feathers.
Bugs can be helpful in a orchard or they can bring  harm to an orchard.
Raccoons are nocturnal animals that sneak into orchards at night to eat the fruit.
Nuts are an important part of a squirrel’s diet. A Squirrel lives in a nest, hollowed out tree trunk or an under ground tunnel.

Pokey Porcupine Puppets

The children made these adorable Porcupine Puppets and learned about their Sharp Quills. They also learned that porcupines will sneak into the orchard at night to look for food.

Picking Fruit Shapes Game

During this game the children were Taking Turns & Rolling the Dice to Sort by shape and put in correct basket.

The children also used their fine motor skills by using the tongs to pick up the shapes to move them to the baskets.

Sneaky Raccoon
Number Recognition and Taking Turns

During this game the children would take turns rolling the dice and identitying the number. They would look to see if the raccoon was hiding behind that tree number card. They were so excited ๐Ÿ˜† when they would find the raccoon behind the tree.๐ŸŒณ

We did this Fun Community Challenge a song together!

Do you know the wild raccoon?

He eats a juicy apple.

He sleeps all day.
(pretend to sleep)
He tiptoes at night.

The children were excited to make their Raccoon masks and tails! They were even more excited to wear them with their friends and have their picture made.
