May Focus Topic - Connecting With Community

Here we are at the end of the school year with our Pre-K Graduation. I am looking at all the ways  our preschoolers learn to identity their role in the community and in their family. Rich & Positive learning experiences/activities do play a major role. Below are some of the wonderful themes the children experienced in my Classroom this year with Mother Goose Time. During all of these themes the children experienced many MGT projects or activities that helped them to better understand their roles. Sending home the monthly newsletters are important to keep parents involved and the school/home connection.

Growing Gardens

Everyday was a learning adventure. A day filled with language & literacy, math, creative arts, story time, music & movement, science and much more.

Well , I am sad to send my children off to kindergarten but I am excited for all that they have learned this year. It was so exciting to see them grow and identify their role in the community through all they have learned this year.

A special thank you to Mother Goose Time for such an Awesome Year!

Respecting Diversity - May's Focus Topic

In the story Stone Soup neighbors came together to do something wonderful. Neighbors that had different talents, jobs and families. They shared the vegetables and other things they had available to make a feast fit for a king. They overcame any reluctance they might have had and came together to make a soup they could all share together.

They all did their own part. Some were soldiers, some were villagers, peasants, a grandma, a grandpa, a baker, a priest, that were men , women and children. All who had their own special place in their community.

This wonderful story teaches a valuable lesson of  sharing and cultural diversity that the children will surely remember.

These are the two versions of the Stone Soup Story that I shared with my children. The book version and the version from Mother Goose Time.

After Story Time the Children did the

Make & Play

Stone Soup Collage

They remembered all the vegetables brought together to make the soup in the story Stone Soup.

During Learning Center Time the Children pretended to make Stone Soup together with their friends in Dramatic Play acting out the story.

This is a new early literacy favorite for me. I love the lessons that it teaches. ❤️

This past week we were exploring growing gardens.

Sprouts and Stems

Each child drew their own seed story. First they drew a seed. Then the stem. Then the leaves, flower and roots. They colored and labeled their seed story. They turned out beautiful and the children were very proud of them. They couldn’t wait to show them to their parents.

Plant Parts

Where are the roots? Where is the seed? Where is the stem? Where are the leaves?

Throughout the week we discussed or included plant parts in all our activities.

I’m a Flower

What kinds of flowers have you seen near your home?

They named a few flowers that they have seen. Some mentioned were bluebonnets, sunflowers and roses. The most favorite color flower was pink. Blue was the second favorite.

The children were excited to be Flowers and they looked So Adorable! This craft was the cutest!

The children had fun pretending they were working in a Flower Shop !

Plants Grow in the Soil

What is Soil? The children answered “Dirt”! What is soil for? “Planting fruits and vegetables.”

Soil is needed to grow things. Plants eat nutrients from soil.

What the Seeds Grow

We plant the seeds in the soil. And they need water and sunshine to grow.  The Farmer’s Market needs Fruits and Vegetables that are grown in a garden.

Sun & Water

Does a plant get thirsty? Yes, just like you it needs water. If a plant doesn’t have water, sun and soil it can’t grow.

Growing Grass

The children planted grass in a small cup and they are going to keep a observation sheet with drawings of their plant. They were very excited about taking these home.

Garden Journal

The children made beautiful garden drawings on their journals.

A lot of them drew themselves and a flower.

Worms

They love the worms! Fake worms! They couldn’t stop playing with them!

The children talked about how worms help plants .

They had an Awesome Time with Creative Art!

Making Worm Paths!
