This is my very first post for Mother Goose Time .
I am so excited for this opportunity. Mother Goose Time is an Awesome Curriculum that I will be sharing with you through my weekly posts of our learning experiences and hands on fun. This summer most of the activities and learning experiences will occur in my home setting. When school starts they will occur in my Pre-K Classroom setting.School will start for us the last week of August so this is when this transition will take place.
I received my June box last week and it was so exciting. It was like Christmas! The teaching resources and children's materials are amazing.
I immediately started laminating everything to prepare it for easy transfer to my Pre-K Class in August.
Getting started with Mother Goose Time is so fun and easy. You can be creative and make circle time such a fun area to be for the children.
I love all of their beautiful teaching circle time resources.https://www.mothergoosetime.com/
During Circle Time : They recognize each other's names and helper jobs
They learn to read the months.
They become aware of the date and the month.
Number recognition and counting
They see the Letter of the Week.
One of their favorite questions is
What's the Weather?
Discussion of the Daily Topic Poster
The Daily Topic Poster - Island for our current theme
My granddaughter noticed the Daily Topic Poster very quickly and couldn't wait to talk about it.
She told me that there is lots of sand and trees on an island and if you have a compass you can find your boat. She said it takes a long time to find your boat. She said the compass shows you where to go with letters of the alphabet. She said the letters on it are a W, S, E and N. She said she would name her island The Beach.
Extending Fun and Learning
In the classroom I would post a pocket chart and I would chart shorter shared answers for questions such as these:
What is on an island?
What would you name your island?
Have you ever been on an island?
What would you use if you got lost?
Our Theme for June is Alphabet Island. It is loaded with Learning Fun! Teaching with themes are awesome because the children are having so much fun they don't realize it is a learning activity that they are involved in. When children walk into my classroom it totally reflects the theme. Each learning center is organized with a learning activity. It is not so organized though that it is not child friendly. It is completely hands on learning. It is for them and for them to come away with new knowledge and skills. Below are some of the activities from Alphabet Island. I will tell you about those in my next post.
Over 30 years ago when I took my daughter to Pre-K I didn't want to leave her class I wanted to stay. Not because I didn't want to leave her but because I knew that class was the place for me. :) I had never even thought about it before but when I stepped in that classroom I was at home. As soon as my youngest son turned 2 , I got a job teaching Pre-K and he was right across the the hall from me with my best friend as his teacher.
Anyway this is leading up to my first year of teaching. I have been teaching for 24 years. When I started teaching it was with theme-based teaching and I have always taught with theme-based teaching. I love it and the children love it. The first year I taught I was surprised at how much fun teaching with themes is. I knew teaching would be fun but it is still so much fun! I never stop thinking about my classroom and teaching. I think about it during the summer, holidays, weekends and so on. There are always so many fun things you can do with themes. The children gain so much from a rich learning environment and activities.
