Classroom Prep and Set up & Meet the Teacher with Mother Goose

Saturday, August 26, 2017 No comments
Last Spring I happened upon a website called mother goose time while browsing at curriculums for the current school year. I looked around and was so impressed by everything I saw on Mother Goose Time. This is something I would really love for our school and for our children. I saved the link to visit again later when I had a little more time.
It wasn't too long after that I got an email from mother goose time asking if I would like to do a survey on their curriculum as a Director. I was so excited and of course I said yes. I soon received a month of curriculum from mother goose time. It was the theme of Nursery Rhymes. I was immediately in love with MGT. I have been teaching for 24 years and it is above and beyond any curriculum I have used. I always have to supplement with resources because other curriculums are not rich enough. They do not cover all areas of learning. This isn't the case with MGT. Anyway that is how I started using the curriculum. I was curious so I started looking around on Facebook for mother goose time teacher groups. I came across a blog ambassador online and started reading about it and I knew that was something I would love to do. I have been posting on my blog for years about my preschool adventures and I am thrilled to be doing it now with MGT. This is my first school year to be posting with MGT. This summer I started with MGT in June and my grand daughter was my student. I have also been preparing and getting things ready for my classroom with the start of the new school year.

         A Superhero Has a Belt

Saturday, August 19, 2017 No comments
Ariana had fun decorating her superhero belt. She wanted to add jewels to her belt.
She said her super hero outfit color would be pink and purple. and she would
have a purple mask.

She said Super Heroes fly all around to get to places. They all have shields but never swords.  A superhero would have a shield on his tool belt. He would also need a jet pack to help him fly in case he fell off a cliff.

Super Hero Game Fun
Ariana said that Super Heroes need to be able to fly. She counted
all the numbers in the game up to six. She was able to count by
touching the dots.

Ariana really enjoyed all the fun words!
                   BOOM! BAM! WHAM! POW!

Power Match Game-  Matching Letter Sounds
Ariana really enjoyed this phonological awareness game.

Superheroes Work Together

They Build Together
To Get Things Done

They worked together to build a home and a fishing boat with lego blocks. They helped each other by finding certain shape blocks for their partner. They helped each other to complete their creation.

Super Hero Ariana has a special message to share:
Batman has a partner named Robin but my partner is Super Samuel! :)

These super fun learning activities are from Mother Goose Time . This month the theme is Superheroes. https://www.mothergoosetime.com/

Superhero Theme Activities and Investigation Stations

Saturday, August 12, 2017 No comments

Ariana was so excited to start our new theme from Mother Goose Time this month. What could be more exciting than Superheroes.  I asked her about superheroes and what they do. She told me that they save people.

Ariana explored the Theme Poster to look for different types of superheroes. She found some dressed in costume, some community helpers and people being helpers. All being Superheroes.

Ariana chose for her superhero name to be SuperAna and was excited to practice writing it.
She loved having a Superhero name.
Ariana drew herself as a superhero on her journal cover. She said she was drawing a pink helmet to protect her head. She wrote her superhero name on the cover later.
Then came time to make her shield. She absolutely loved this project and the finished product. She loved the Glitter too!
I use investigation station suggestions from Mother Goose Time in my science center, sensory center, dramatic play and art/creation center.

In the Shape Symbol photos above the activity is in Science Center. This is Magnetic Discovery and Fun with paper clips, wands and  a magnetic alphabet and above is another suggested activity - Super Blocks.

Other examples of Investigation Stations
Sensory- Playdoh , cutters, blocks and small items-invite children to make prints in dough

Dramatic Play-Set out sidewalk chalk and a squirt bottle filled with water outside-invite the children to draw on the concrete with chalk. Have them pretend to put out fires and squirt drawings with water.-Which superhero puts out fires?

Art/Creation-Creating a glasses case for a super hero using paper, scissors, tape, fabric and glue. The superhero needs to keep his or her glasses in a safe place.

All of these activities are open ended and the children make many choices investigating, discovering, creating and more.

This month's theme is Superheroes at https://www.mothergoosetime.com/

Promoting Early Literacy

Promoting a Love for Writing

At my house we made a special place for emergent writing. Ariana has a special little area with a small caddy that has writing materials just for her to do her writing. At school I include stencils, a pencil, a marker , scrap paper  and here I have the Mother Goose Time Journal which will be in our writing center at school this year. I do not put too many materials out because this can be overwhelming. This helps to promote writing in a way the children love.

Here is a sample of our writing center at school.

Promoting a Love for Reading

Ways in which to promote of love for reading is to sing songs, read stories, and tell stories that they can re-tell with story pieces or without story pieces.
Children also love Circle Time, Story Time and Music Time at School and these times promote Early Literacy.
Children love having a special place for storing their books.  This teaches them to take care of their books and that books are special.

Below are a few more fun ways to promote Early Literacy with Mother Goose Time.

Promoting literacy with the children is so much fun for me. I just simply love it!
